Poppone is a red wine obtained from a blend of Merlot passito and Pignolo grapes whose vineyards are cultivated with the Guyot training system on predominantly calcareous and dolomitic soil.
The Merlot harvest is carried out after the grapes have dried, these will then join those of the pignolo, a rare historic autochthonous Friulian vine whose name derives from the shape of the bunch that resembles a pine cone. In the cellar the vinification involves a soft pressing, with maceration and fermentation in steel. The Pignolo must rests for 12 months in tonneaux, after which it will be blended with the Merlot for a final refinement in the bottle.
At sight it shows a ruby ????red color. The nose has strong hints of ripe red fruit. On the palate it is elegant and austere, with a dense tannic texture and a long and persistent finish.
Poppone offers a satisfying sip capable of seducing the palate; recommended pairing with seasoned blue cheeses and ideal as a meditation wine.
